I really like Black Ops, having stopped playing MW2 when the expensive DLC started, I haven't played it in awhile. From what I do remember though, I think the changed made to the game are a big plus.
1. Quick scoping is a thing of the past, so the days of watching players run around a map with a sniper rifle going for short range kills is suicide.
2. Sniping is actually a skill now. One hit kills take work with a sniper rifle like they should. In past CoD's anyone thought they were a sniper ( myself included who improved his K/D ratio dramatically once I realized how easy it is to snipe in MW2 over say a game like Halo ), now we often have snipers who need 2 - 4 hits to make a kill. It isn't like Medal of Honor where you spawn die, spawn die, etc. etc. You can actually get on the playing field, or even out run snipers shooting at you. Cool!
3. The over powered perks are gone, and dual wielding shotguns with assault rifle range as well. No using scavenger to spam noobtubes! Although I do miss being to replenish my claymores. It's a worthy tradeoff though. :p
4. Noob tubes less prevalent, and opening spawn salvos haven't been discovered yet.
The thing that does kill the game is the latency/lag issues, at times they are game breaking. If you're curious to test this... On the map Villa if someone shoots at you from the main Villa, into the small sniping room. Notice if it is assault rifle fire, after you run from the gunfire thru thru window to the stairs, you are still being hit from gun fire as your reach the steps. You won't die, but it's frustrating to say the least. So the days of seemingly being hit from gunfire around corners is still around, if not a little worse. There's is bullet penetration ( Hardened ), but it doesn't account for bullets that make it around corners.
Lately I've run into countless games where connection interrupted shows up at the end of games, and even during. Nothing makes you want to throw your controller than getting the drop on someone, connection interrupted shows up on your screen, and when the game starts again you've died. On the other person's screen nothing happened, it just shows you looking at them and NOT firing. On the Treyarch forums some have attributed this to the games bandwidth interpretation, there is a way to look at how the game sees your bandwidth. Seems for many it sees your connection as being very low.
I've taken to changing my search so it only sees 'Locale Only', which helps a little.
The tip about putting 'Rapid Fire' on your gun really helps out if you find yourself constantly getting the wrong end of the drop like I do.
About the footsteps issue, while you may not hear someone else, your own footsteps are almost deafening now. I take the Ninja perk just to NOT hear my own footsteps.

If they are on the move, this sometimes results into them literally running to where you spawn, giving them a cheap kill while you orient yourself. On the other hand, this does lead to one getting 'payback' kills more often.
I really do like the maps though, the sheer number of ( 14 )maps keeps repetition down. The amount of things going on while you are playing is cool, with the launching rocket shaking the bulk of the map, or the train shaking one end of the map, the target dummies moving about, or the underground areas increasing the size really makes them interesting.
Not a big fan of the single player, but I do like how it offers you a large assortment of the weapons so you can become familiar with them before multiplayer. The combat training is hilarious, naming bots after people on your friend's list. It isn't much help for playing online, but does allow you to try things out before spending money in the multiplayer.
A new update or patch will be welcome, and I look forward to playing the game despite it's problems. Good fun.

But seriously, the new codecs aren't that magical and even with VC1 or H.264, it's pretty easy to run into a barrier with a 25 to 30 GB disc size. Sony shouldn't have any troubles with fitting films at full quality on a 50GB disc. Also keep in mind that the layer substrate within BluRay is a lot thinner than DVD/HD-DVD discs and they claim that a disc could potentially hold up to 12 layers

Add in your lossless audio track, Dolby Digital+ and IME linked to the extras in that final 10GB and you're fine. Speaking with some Microsofties about their VC-1 they believe they can get down to 9Mbps for HD material and 11Mbps for "comfortable" material so there's still room for improvement. 50GB is cool for movies that just have a huge amount of extras though.

This is just the precursor to downloading the whole movie without a physical medium. It'll take a decade to get last mile coverage to rural areas but broadband speed and pervasiveness will ensure that warehousing packaged discs goes the way of the dodo.

I think you're missing the forest for the trees. Offering near-identical features on cheap-quality devices has happened. LTD can be fanboyishly irritating (no offense) but the point stands - he didn't say there were no high-end handsets from the competition, he said companies flood the market with cheap electronics... which they do.

I've gone back to Firefox (4) after using Safari and Chrome. Both seem to have this awful problem of lag when opening new pages on tabs (i.e. you click back to the page you were viewing while the new one loads and it just sits there; maybe it doesn't happen on dual-core processors, but it happens on this netbook with both Safari and Chrome (both Webkit based). Firefox4 doesn't have this problem. It may be slightly slower rendering a page, but I can do other things while it's rendering a new page whereas I just have to sit and wait with Safari and Chrome.
These naysayers have been moaning and groaning about iOS forever. They will continue to do so forever. In the meantime the rest of the world will get on with using some great software (many of it free) and getting a lot of things done.

But is has and IS stagnating. Apple is playing cutesy interface with this iOS merging and not much else. Where are the REAL features at like OpenGL4, display resolution independence, updated video drivers, a newer file system (like the ZFS that never came to be), format/write support for NTFS so I don't have to boot into Windows just to create a Windows compatible media drive, support for EXT3 (for the same reason with Linux drives and various NAS setups (e.g. Negear's USB UPnP runs many times faster with EXT3 than NTFS and doesn't support HFS period. How about a feature to NOT copy over '.files' when moving media files over to a Windows machine or putting songs on a USB stick (where car players will often trip over them)? These are FUNCTIONAL differences that would improve enjoyment of OSX and make it faster/better.
What good is an app launcher like iOS devices use on OSX? It's POINTLESS and worse yet intimates that it may be the future primary interface for OSX some day. Other than OpenGL3, I don't see much in the way of true 'OS' improvements in Lion. I see a bunch of smart phone crap that does very little to improve anything. Instead, it's starting to compete with itself.

I have to say-- I was with Verizon for 4 years before getting the iPhone. I *knew* (meaning I told myself prior to) that getting the iPhone would mean worse service and coverage, but I bit the bullet and went with it anyway.
Having said that, AT&T has not been nearly as bad as I imagined. Hardly any dropped calls, and although coverage was a little better with Verizon, there are actually several places I get AT&T service now that I did not with Verizon. So it's pretty even I'd say.
The only issue I have sometimes is when I'm at like a sporting event or something in Philly I can sometimes not get service because of network overload.

I've had the opposite. A lot of my friends are Android owners and have flat out told me that they want to switch to iPhone after checking mine out. Most of them complain about battery life and smoothness of interface.
My best friend was checking out my phone the other day (he's a Droid Incredible owner) and using my IMDB app, and I heard him mumble to himself, "I can't wait to get one of these." He hates that the scrolling on his phone always locks up and stutters. He also hates that he can't get through a whole day on one battery charge even though he is REALLY anal about killing processes.
The office I used to work in was about half and half iPhone/Android. The sales guys all used the original Motorola Droid. They all swore by it. Once that iPhone 4 for Verizon dropped, I saw a lot of people changing their tune. About half of the Android users walked in with them in the next couple of weeks.
I now work in downtown Chicago, and being a gadget lover, I often look at what people are using on my walk to the train station. (EVERYONE is carrying some kind of gadget or another). I see about 75% iPhones/iPods and about 25% of everything else. I have seen exactly TWO Android tablets out in the wild and about a zillion iPads. (Haven't seen any iPad 2s yet).
A lot of people bought android stuff because they hated AT&T. I have always looked as Android as a me too product. It just depends on how you look at it and what you need. I am not even an Apple lover, but the iPhone 4 was the best phone I tried at the time.

That is a very poor speed, at least I'm getting close to 10 mb/s but paying for 30 I think... $76 a month. These monopolies we have in the US are a drag, they can do whatever they want and the gov does nothing about it. Mine is adequate for all the folding at least.
